Role: Designer

In the 4 years since it’s inception, Black-Owned Brooklyn has highlighted some of NYC’s best makers and designers. In February 2022, the team launched Jummy’s Picks, a curatorial service that introduces those brands to wider audiences through bespoke shopping experiences.

When Nordstrom approached Black-Owned Brooklyn to curate a collection for Black History Month, founders Cynthia Gordy Giwa and Tayo Giwa brought me on board to build out the Jummy’s Picks brand. Our goal was to create a logo that was instantly recognizable, spirited, fun, and a bit playful—a wordmark that would make sense in any environment, wherever Jummy’s Picks might pop up next.

Working closely with the Nordstrom team on a floor plan, color palette, signage, and displays, we brought the brand to life in an immersive, vibrant shopping experience that took the Center Stage at the retailer’s NYC flagship store.

From fashion-forward clothing by Chen Burkett and Savant Studios, to jewelry with a rebellious Afropunk aesthetic by Heavy Metals NYC, to Caribbean treats from Askanya Chocolate and Brooklyn Brewed Sorrel, to nontoxic nail polish by Breukelen Polished, to luxury bags and baskets from Sarep and Rose, and colorful coasters and pillows by Modish Decor, the Jummy’s Picks Nordstrom pop-up made shopping Black and local easy.
